Whether you have been in an accident before or are new to the experience, it can be a truly frightening and stressful thing. Knowing what to do ahead of time can save you the headache of regret later. See below for common questions our collision center customers ask us.
What are the first steps I should take after an accident?
Answer: First, call an ambulance if anyone is injured. Then, if possible move your vehicle away from oncoming traffic to avoid any additional accidents. The third step is very important regardless of the type or size of accident: Call the police to file an official police report. Finally obtain information from the other party involved and any witnesses.
What type of evidence should I collect at the scene of the accident?
Answer: Collect the names, contact information, insurance information, license plate numbers, vehicle information (make, model, year), vehicle registration number, and driver’s license numbers of all those involved. Also, make sure to take photos of the scene, including photos of vehicle damage, any injuries, and any evidence of road/weather conditions.
How do I file a car insurance claim?
Answer: How you file a car insurance claim depends on various factors, especially on the nature of the claim (i.e. personal injury claim, property damage claim, etc.). Some cases might seem simple enough to file a claim on your own behalf; other cases are complicated and benefit greatly from a car accident attorney who can file on your behalf.
Do I have to use the repair center recommended by the insurance company in order to get a full warranty for the repairs?
Answer: No! Where you choose to repair your vehicle after an accident is completely up to you. An insurance company may make suggestions, but it is ultimately your decision. At all our collision centers we stand behind our repairs and you will receive a written warranty.
What if the insurance company writes an estimate that doesn’t cover the amount of vehicle damage?
Answer: Our collision centers will handle any supplements by filing directly with the insurance company. Once the vehicle work is completed, you will simply bring in any check sent to you as well as any deductible due. We will handle all the details!
